Part local boozer, part live entertainment venue and part gutsy street-food joint – no wonder the buzzy Abbey Tavern is seldom short of punters. The line-up of events takes in everything from a
comedy club (Mondays) and open-mic nights on Tuesdays to bingo and weekend DJs, but also look out for the Marvel comic-themed quizzes every month. Food is in the hands of the guys from Phileas Hog
– so expect their trademark pulled pork (sourced from free-range Suffolk pigs), salt beef on sourdough, burgers, veggie patties and ‘hot chicks’ (grilled chicken sandwiches loaded with ‘bacon jam’,
guacamole and chipotle mayo), plus sides of poutine, stuffed jalapeño ‘poppers’ and mac ‘n’ cheese. Pints of Hop Gun from the Late Knights Brewery and free Wi-Fi, plus a handy beer garden and roof
terrace earn bonus points with the locals.
