Mackie Mayor is a former meat hall in Manchester's creative Northern Quarter which has been lovingly restored into a bustling food market in collaboration with Tender Cow, a steak eatery with a difference. The space is beautiful and boasts historic features like triple-height ceilings, a statement staircase and industrial lighting, with enough space for around 500 people, making this a place to be.
Here, you can come together with friends, family and colleagues to enjoy all-day dining and drinking, with even options to hire the place for private dining events or weddings. As for the food, the team at Tender Cow are passionate about expanding the options for steak-focused dining and work with local farmers on seasonal produce that highlights lesser known cuts of meat.
For example, you won't find classic cuts like fillet and rib eye here, instead they work with all parts of the cow to not only give customers something a little different and offer education, but also keep costs lower. In terms of the menu, you can find a sample online which spans breakfast, brunch and dinner.
You could kick off the day with a hearty signature like the TC Full English which includes smoked bacon, Swaledale sausage, a hash brown, poached eggs, beans and sourdough, or we like the sound of the Isle of Wight Tomatoes on toast with poached eggs, whipped feta and tarragon dressing.
For brunch, there's delicious plates like the classic steak sandwich with béarnaise, rocket and beef fat caramelised onions to enjoy, or tuck into the Mackie cheeseburger with chips. As for dinner, get a load of the hanger steak with café de paris butter, alongside the 10oz Swaledale Denver with herb butter, all of which can be accompanied by sides like Isle of Wight tomatoes with shallot and caper dressing with whipped feta.
