Manchester's Northern Quarter has long been known as a place to be, brimming with independent businesses and great foodie spots. So, if you're looking for somewhere of-the-moment and full of character to host a special event, you need to check out Mackie Mayor at the heart of this creative district.
This handsome, historic space was once the city's meat market and over the years has been pain-stakingly renovated and re-designed to create a bustling hub, bringing together a mix of dining options, including the Tender Cow. Overall, the space has enough space for 500 people and Mackie Mayor can be hired out for private events, corporate functions or even weddings, so you can get in touch with the in-house team to find out more.
In terms of Tender Cow's offering, this small, dedicated team works across a unique premise, bringing customers an incredible dining experience at a better price by using lesser known cuts of meat. You won't find sirloin, rib-eye or fillet on the menus here, instead try something out of the ordinary like sirloin pave, spider steak, hanger steak and Jacobs steak. The team seek out some of the best suppliers across the country and believe in working with local farms as much as possible, and always looking to what's in season first, for a more authentic and sustainable offering.
While the all-day menu is delicious, those taking over the entire venue can take a look online at the specially-created private dining menu which offers the choice of two or three courses. For example, starters include the likes of hanger steak with café de paris butter, portobello mushrooms with white beans and chilli sauce, as well as smoked ox cheek with sourdough and pickled chilli. For mains, we like the sound of the whole crispy pork belly with smoked apple ketchup, alongside whole herb rubbed lamb shoulder with salsa verde and baked sides of salmon with lemon aioli.
