Takayama first opened its doors back in 2017, led by a team who are passionate about creating authentic, mouthwatering Japanese and Korean food. The extensive menu has something for everyone from sweet and sticky sauces to rich and savoury rubs, the food prepared here is nothing short of excellent. Freshly prepared each day, dishes are crafted by masters of their craft in the kitchen, from stir fries to sushi rolls, and each dish uses the best of handpicked produce.
Appetisers and sides are sort of one at Takayama, with each small plate able to be enjoyed to begin your meal, on the side of your main, or perhaps you could order several as your meal. Miso soup is made with small pieces of tofu, wakame and spring onions, whilst the grilled scallops come drenched in butter with asparagus. For something spicy, try the deep fried chicken thighs with soy-flavoured sauce, or the grilled prawn skewers in lime and chilli. The miso-glazed pork ribs are always a hit, as is the seared raw salmon.
Nigiri sushi is prepared with thin slices of fresh fish over oblongs of sticky rice, and comes with many choices. You can choose for aburi salmon, tuna, octopus, sea bream, eel, surf clam, fish roe, and several other toppings. Tempura is always a popular choice, with sweet potato, vegetables and prawn on the menu. When you get to your main, try the black cod misoyaki, Scottish ribeye with teriyaki sauce or Korean dish of bulgogi marinated beef. There are lots of rice and noodle mains to choose from, including the salmon dolsot bibimbap with an egg yolk, and the yasai yaki udon with thick wheat flour noodles.
