Hidden away in this St James’s hotel is one of the best value English afternoon tea spots in the capital. Sit in the lounge just off the ornate lobby to tuck into beautifully presented sandwiches, delicate cakes and a selection of sweet and savoury bites. Chef Adam Handlings has gone to town on the choices and has catered for gluten free diners (gluten free bread sandwiches, scones, macaron and panna cotta) as well as seasonal choices for those who can eat everything. Children are especially spoilt, with a Busy Bee tea, consisting of egg, jam and chocolate sandwiches, pies, brownies and hazelnut and bee pollen cake. Whilst there, ask to visit the in-house bee colony – fascinating viewing which makes the whole visit worthwhile.
