No trip here would be complete without a bag of fish and chips from one of the many restaurants that offer this quintessentially British meal. While sitting in somewhere is great come the cooler weather, once the sun begins to shine for summer, we think there’s nothing better than taking your wrapped-up fish suppers away with you to enjoy quietly on the beach or a little spot of countryside nearby. With views that stretch on for miles, and fresh salty air, there’s a unique satisfaction that comes from soaking up the sights while tucking into crispy batter-coated fish, vinegar covered chips and, of course, a pot of mushy peas.
While there are all sorts of small, independently run restaurants in Southend-on-Sea, there are also big name, recognisable dining brands on the scene here too. These are great if you’re travelling with little ones and want something easy and predictable that will offer something for everyone, and maybe even a colouring book or two to keep little people occupied.
