A breezily stylish deli-cum-eatery whose clean-lined interior is at odds with its stone frontage, Somewhere Else lays its cards on the table from the minute you walk in and eye the luscious cakes on the counter and the chilled cabinet full of picture-perfect ‘power’ salads, wraps and sausage rolls. Breakfast does the business, while lunch brings everything from jacket potatoes or ploughman’s, to a butternut-squash burger with fine, crisp fries. Burgers are a mainstay of the evening menu too, but other choices range from mini mac ‘n’ cheese, or lamb kofta, to excellent 28-day Devon Ruby steaks – maybe with béarnaise sauce and triple-cooked chips. Portions are huge, but try to leave room for a dessert such as lemon polenta cake with blood orange granita. Drinks run from coffees and cocktails to a slate of international wines.
