As tradition goes, a cauldron by the name of Gamasot was used for Korean cooking, consisting of three large iron pots that were perfect for retaining heat. The restaurant's name, Sodeang, is a Korean word that means the lid of the Gamasot. Therefore, it's no surprise that the restaurant serves some of the very best Korean dishes that you'll find in London, located on Putney Bridge Road.
Some of the small plates include kimchi mandu and the saewoo deep fried dumplings filled with shrimp and vegetables. Deep fried glass noodles wrapped in seaweed batter are also on the tapas menu, along with chicken skewers that are tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce. Authentic Korean style rice cakes are made with dish and chilli sauce, whilst the omelette is made with kimchi and a spicy sauce. There is a wonderfully long list of delicious noodles on the menu, including a variety in a black bean sauce with pork and vegetables, the spicy noodle soup with seafood, and stir fried noodles that are in a thickened broth with selected seafood and vegetables.
The bibimbab is a popular Korean rice dish with beef and vegetables, including egg and stir fried with a homemade chilli sauce. There are some great hot pot dishes, including the ugeoji galbi tang with ox bone broth and green cabbage leaves and soybean paste, along with a nourishing whole spring chicken broth with Korean ginseng. Some of the Sodaeng specials include deep fried pork, chicken or shrimp with Korean style sweet and sour sauce, along with the steamed tofu and pork served on a bed of cooked kimchi. Be sure to wash it all down with a Korean soft drink of Milkis, combining carbonated water and sugar with creamy milk.
