Situated in Dordon, just outside the historic market town of Tamworth, Simla is simply one of the most stunning Indian restaurants in the Midlands today. Discover a menu full of bold flavours, fresh ingredients and authentic Indian cuisine.
This family restaurant is inspired by the chef's mother and his family kitchen. The entire menu features flavours from across India, including dishes from the royal kitchen of North India to the coastal cuisine of the Southern states. Each section of the menu utilises authentic cooking techniques with passion, culture and history; plus the new street food section shows that the team are not afraid of innovation and excitement too.
Glitz and glamour is brought to the restaurant by the Zenna bar, making the perfect backdrop for birthdays, dates, or any special occasion. Start off with a sleek, sophisticated cocktail before really getting the party started with a unique cocktail created by the in-house mixologists.
In the starter selection, you'll find classics like Delhi chicken tikka with a citrusy lemon pickle, a cool yoghurt and a spicy chilli oil. More unusual small plates include the likes of sesame cauliflower with crispy noodles and lamb combined with cinnamon, cheese, saffron and mustard.
The mains are split into three sections: the hot stone grill, biryanis, and curries. Off the grill, you can opt for a ribeye marinated in aniseed and cardamom or a South Indian style tandoori chicken dish roasted in eight different spices.
While you will find some familiar favourites like a chicken korma, jalfrezi and butter chicken curry; the team introduce diners to a broader range of flavours. Try the Keralan lobster moilee in a creamy coconut and lime sauce or the sea bream which is served with a mustard and tomato gravy and a lotus seed crisp.
Each main course can be accompanied by the usual sides like rice, popadums or naans as well as innovative options like masala-spiced fries.
