Selminas is a Mexican restaurant on the west side of central Coventry, not far from the Coventry Skydome. The restaurant was started by owners Selma and Emina, who wanted to bring authentic Mexican cooking to Coventry - Emina looks after the food-side of things in the kitchen, whilst Selma manages front of house and mixes up cocktails.
The restaurant is housed in an old cottage, and inside you can still see the timber beams and roof supports. Selminas interiors are bright and colourful, with tropical wallpaper and hanging plants livening up the space. The rest of the colour palette is rich with dark greens and terracotta floor tiling, as well as Selminas' signature flamingos on the walls.
The menu takes guests on a tour of Mexico, and features a huge range of authentic Mexican cooking from the north to the south of this huge, varied country. The menu itself is broken down into various sections, ranging from typical Mexican street food like burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas and chimichangas to a range of fajitas with fillings like cheese, chicken, ribeye steak and tiger prawns. There are larger signature plates as well, including the likes of ribeye steak with chimichurri, Mexican lamb shank with with rice and fried tacos, and fajita-spiced salmon with coconut veg.
If you fancy a bit more of a nibble and a drink, Selminas also has a tapas menu of smaller bites which are perfect for sharing. Tapas dishes include the likes of nachos, quesadillas, lime chilli seabass with sriracha glaze, and tequila prawns with jalapeno sauce.
