Santiago’s Tapas touts itself as an authentic Spanish and Cuban restaurant in Cardiff, giving locals the opportunity to enjoy sharing plates in the style of Mediterranean cuisine.
Specialising in tapas, Santiago’s is an independent, family run business which promises a genuine Latin dining experience. Santiago’s menu is curated using a mix of Spanish produce, as well as making the most of ingredients and produce that can be sourced locally.
There are three Santiago’s restaurants; City Centre, Whitchurch and Thornbury. The Whitchurch branch has a long list of both tapas plates intended to be enjoyed by the whole table and main meals, in case you feel like going it alone. Highlights from the tapas menu include Galician octopus, meatballs and dates with bacon. While dishes on the main menu that sound particularly good are whole grilled seabream, fillet steak and a selection of paella.
On Sundays, the restaurant happily joins in on the British tradition of Sunday lunch, offering three roast options. Diners can choose between lamb, beef and belly pork, all of which are served with fresh vegetables, potatoes and homemade gravy. Oh, and don’t forget churros served with chocolate or apples for dessert.
Drinks wise, the restaurant looks to Spain for its wine list, including a decent selection of sparkling cava wines for those wanting to make a toast with their meal. There’s also a mix of Spanish gins, rare whiskies and Spanish brandy.
