Salvo’s Salumeria is the popular café/deli next-door-but-one to the main man. The long narrow room is jam-packed with all sorts of Italian produce from breads and cheeses to pesto, salami and prosciutto. They also serve a simple daytime menu of sandwiches, salads, soups and platters of meat, cheese or vegetables, plus a pasta special. It’s an easy-going and friendly place for a proper meal, but you can also while away a couple of hours with the papers and a proper espresso. From Wednesday to Friday they open in the evening for a no-choice six-course dinner (£22.95), while Saturday brings a regional spread (£33.95) – maybe Sicilian, maybe Tuscan, with local specialities, artisan ingredients and a helping of Salvo’s trademark conviviality. There are also monthly five-course dinners with matching Italian wines included.
