Susannah Stewart is the owner of Salty Olive, and has been inspired by her travels to Spain that have taken place over the last forty years or so. Enchanted by the Spanish way of doing things, Susannah set out on a mission. At first, back in 2003, Calau Restaurant opened its doors in the beachside town of Calella de Palafrugell, but back in the spring of 2023, Susannah brought this style, and her talents home, opening the doors of Salty Olive to the community of Wokingham. Quite often, you'll find events taking place at Salty Olive, from summer clothes swapping and Father's Day lunches through to sip and paint evenings and live music performances.
The kitchen team at Salty Olive proudly prepare fresh ingredients every day, so you'll always find something different on the menu. With it changing daily, you can't know exactly what you'll get, but there are always selections of fresh, cold pinchos that are displayed on the bar, and home-cooked hot dishes. Vegetable based dishes include traditional patatas bravas, aubergine gratin, deep fried brie and mango and homemade Spanish tortillas. For meat eaters, you may spot the chorizo cooked in red wine, serrano ham and manchego cheese or suckling pig empanadas. Fresh fish dishes are a great addition to any meal and include the fresh crab and crayfish salad, sardines with a fresh tomato salsa and sea bass with avocado.
If you want to try the desserts, you'll be delighted by delicious, sweet options of banoffee pie, vegan ice cream, and traditional homemade churros and chocolate sauce. If you prefer to keep things savoury and salty, end your meal with a selection of cheese and biscuits.
