Salt & Malt is a seafood restaurant and fish and chip shop with two sites in Bristol: Wapping Wharf and Chew Valley. Located on the ground floor of a shipping container complex, Salt & Malt in Wapping Wharf offers views overlooking the harbour which, rather aptly, contributes to the maritime theme and feel of the restaurant.
Integral to Salt & Malt’s ethos is its commitment to sustainable sourcing. It works with the team at Flying Fish Food to source fresh and seasonal varieties, all of which is MSC certified. Additionally, all its ingredients are sourced from the local region to ensure shorter supply chains and a better understanding of where its produce is coming from.
From Wednesday to Sunday, diners can choose to dine at the restaurant from a menu of tasty small plates. Why not start with a trio of oysters – opt for classic, with chilli salsa or fried. Smaller dishes include seafood arancini with saffron aioli, pan fried chalk stream trout with butter bean puree and sea vegetables and grilled sardines with warm seasonal vegetables and caper butter on sourdough toast.
If you want to sit in but still fancy classic fish and chips, you can order that too. A choice of cod, haddock, scampi or a house fishcake are all served with chips, crushed peas, tartare sauce and lemon. There’s a menu for little ones, too, making it a great spot for families, and don’t neglect the sides which includes a battered banger, halloumi and curry sauce (separately, of course!). Wash it down with a selection of wines, sparkling, aperetifs or perhaps something from the Bristol Beer Company.
Salt & Malt is first and foremost a fish and chip shop, though, so browse the takeaway menu for your choice of cod, haddock, scampi or a fishcake, plus as many sides as you please!
