Tucked away on a side street in Sheffield city centre, Sakushi is a colourful, funky Japanese joint that doesn’t take itself too seriously – although the food is reckoned to be right on the money. Conveyor-belt sushi is the main event, with colour-coded plates signifying different prices (stack up your empties ready for counting after the meal): pick from a bright illustrated line-up of nigiri, ura maki, cone-shaped temaki hand-rolls and seaweed-wrapped gunkan featuring everything from tuna, surf clam and grilled eel to asparagus with mayo or crispy salmon skin with avocado and sesame dressing. Otherwise go for tempura, ramen noodles, donburi rice bowls or one of the bento boxes. There’s a mini menu for the under-12s (aka Little Ninjas), and you can order online for home deliveries. Also enquire about Sakushi’s discount loyalty card.
