It's hard to find a steak restaurant with a neighbourhood feel, friendly team and fair pricing - but in Roxie, we think you'll strike gold. Set up by Rich and Sue, two steak lovers who felt there were no affordable but delicious offerings in the market, the pair went about sourcing their own cuts, building a warm environment and starting an independent chain which currently spans three restaurants in Putney, Earlsfield and Wimbledon.
Each restaurant has its own flair but the ethos and menu regulars stay the same. At the heart of Roxie is a 'meat manifesto' which promises to use the best ingredients for the best prices, primarily sourcing steaks from the Pampas Regions of Uruguay, with a mix of grain and grass-fed cattle. Every day, the meat is hand cut in their central London kitchen and delivered fresh to each location, with every cut aged for a minimum of 21 days.
Moving onto the menu and you'll find a mix of small plates to share with the table to start. The Asian salad with tenderstem broccoli, sugar snaps, radish, spring onion, edamame, mint and peanuts, topped with steak strips, chicken or halloumi sounds divine, as does the golden arancini with spinach, pea, ricotta and truffle.
Of course, most diners are here for the steaks and you'll find cuts of sirloin, fillet, rump, ribeye and picanha. If you fancy trying a bit of everything, the 400g fillet sharer is a winner, or try the steak and ribs platter with picanha 250g or rump 250g, accompanied by 600g rack of baby back ribs, your choice of sauce, heaps of chips, purple slaw and truffle mayo. Who could say no?
There's an impressive range of sauces, from chimichurri and bernaise to bourbon bbq, as well as sides like truffle mac and cheese, sweet potato fries and miso sesame tenderstem. So, you can be assured that your steak will have good company on your plate.
