Opened in 2019, Razzo Pizza is a more recent addition to Edinburgh's thriving Italian food scene. Razza's offering is incredibly simple: authentic Neopolitan pizza in a pared-back intimate setting. There is a small, carefully selected list of wine and beer to accompany the pizza. Unlike many other pizza restaurants, the dough is prepared and cut in-store daily. Razzo has gained immense popularity for its authenticity and affordability, so it's well worth a stop for any pizza-lover visiting the Scottish capital.
There is a pretty extensive selection to start you off while you decide which pizza to go for, including burrata with tomato and rocket, Sicilian olives, arancini, salumi and potato croquettes with smoked provola. From there, it's time to decide. As any good pizzeria should, Razzo offers pizzas with without cheese and without tomato (white pizza), alongside the more familiar options. The simplest option is the marinara (tomato, garlic, oregano and extra virgin olive oil). Purists can go for a classic Margherita, or upgrade to buffalo mozzarella if they so choose. White pizzas include the funghi (roasted mushrooms, fior di latte, taleggio, garlic and parsley) and the speck (fior di latte, speck, gorgonzola, acacia honey and walnuts).
Meatier options include the nduja or salsiccia piccante which offer something a little spicier, while those of a more mild palate can go for the salsiccia and wild broccoli or mortadella with burrata. Veggies should try the ortolana, which comes with yellow tomatoes, smoked ricotta, fried courgettes, mushrooms, peppers and extra virgin olive oil.
Finish with an authentic Neopolitan dessert such as rum baba (watch out for the booze level on these) or a Sicilian cannolo with pistachio and ricotta cream. Those wanting something simpler can opt for the gelato, or simply an espresso to end the meal with a boost of energy to counteract all the dough.
