SquareMeal Review of Quartier Restaurant at Eight Members' Club

As one of the few private clubs in the City, Eight should attract plenty of financial whizz-kids – although you don’t need to be a member to eat in its first-floor restaurant. The stylish, modern dining room has plenty of dark wood, leather and cream on show, enlivened with a sprinkling of contemporary art (check out the ice-cream cone designs on the walls). The kitchen turns out competent if rather functional food with a twist: expect the likes of sautéed tiger prawns with minted couscous ahead of steamed fillet of sea bream with coconut wild rice and saffron sauce or pan-fried pork fillet with curried celeriac gratin and savoy cabbage, all complemented by a decent, wide-ranging wine list. Service is politely efficient, and the quiet feel makes this a useful spot for a discreet business lunch. The outdoor terrace is a further plus.

great business lunch venue
Tucked away in a side street, this restaurant in a members club has an exclusive (but not stuffy) feel as soon as you enter. The diners at lunch were all business people. Lovely light restaurant (a terrace looks like it will be great in warmer weather), varied menu, and good selection of wines by the glass. Food is a little pricey, but great quality and attentive service.

Fantastic Hidden Gem
Great Venue, amazing views in Summer. The food was great, the service was great, the house red not so great. Otherwise a fantastic quiet restaurant, where you can eat, be left in peace and enjoy the surroundings.

A first time diner at Quartier. The service was stand out from arrival to departure! We were celebrating a birthday and requested a quiet location with a window view. A great table location was provided. Our waiter was attentive throughout our lunch. We selected the ‘set menu’ option as the food selections from appetizers through to desserts were varied and interesting. The goat's cheese salad and the salmon gravalax were delicious to start with. The tiger prawn linguine that I selected was excellent as was the chicken Ceasar salad main course chosen by my partner. We had no hesitation in trying out the desserts a lemon tart with raspberry coulis and a rhubarb cheescake. Both were tangy and mouthwatering, creatively presented with the added touch of birthday greetings inscribed on the cheescake plate in chocolate and raspeberry coulis. We enjoyed a glass of vibrant and fruity prosseco as an aperitif, followed by a bottle of “Stickleback” blended red wine, a most pleasing Australian. We will certainly return and recommend.

Courtesy of a Groupon bargain (5-course tasting menu, plus glass of fizz, £49 for two!!) we found ourselves embarking on the mission that is actually locating Quartier. Fortunately there is now sufficient advice available on line from previous trail blazers so that you have some idea of what you're looking for (entrance to number 8 Dysart St not number 1, head for glass lift, patch of artificial lawn, no signage) so that by the time you reach the restaurant reception area you can regain your poise and cast all previous doubts (is this really where we go?) aside. First impressions were not great; there was no warmth in the welcome, the voucher demanded abruptly and a somewhat empty dining room with jarring muzak did not bode well. We were shown to our table without ceremony but the included glass of fizz was brought over immediately, and fortunately the evening then picked up immensely. All dishes were presented beautifully, the menu was very well balanced with each course complementing the other perfectly, the only criticism would be the speed at which we were served. However our request for a bit of a pause before the dessert was noted. Stand out dish was definitely the artichoke tortellini served with a luxurious and silky artichoke veloute, although the beetroot cured smoked salmon with a fiery wasabi sauce also deserves a mention. Our initial fears for the wine list (no prices published on their website) were allayed with a limited, but reasonably priced selection. Service was a little cool at the beginning but thawed throughout the meal at our obvious appreciation of the food given the empty plates and positive comments after each course. Would we return? Am keeping a careful eye on the menu and as soon as the pasta dish makes an appearance, I'll be back!

Having booked and dined in a vast number of central London restaurants for work purposes I usually tend to avoid London dining for leisure but this one is definitely a well kept secret I would happily use for work and play. It was recommended by a colleague who had used the restaurant for a business lunch and told me it was impressive and I have to agree. I took my partner to celebrate a milestone birthday and not only was the food delicious, the service was also excellent topped by the terrace with softly lit views across London it was wonderful space for pre dinner drinks and a sneaky cigarette (there are some smokers left!). One tip when booking, as for directions as its based inside a private members club its not an obvious find, that being said, its definitely worth looking for! L. Taylor
