Middle Eastern street food is Pomegranate’s stock in trade, and the main event is a prodigious selection of mezze served amid hanging lanterns, colourful cushions and low tables in the bright ground-floor dining room. The food come fast, so work your way through little plates of lemon-scented BBQ chicken wings, kubba (vegetable patties), baba gannouj, tabbouleh and fatoush salad before tackling one of the kebabs, shawarma wraps or a big helping of ‘qozy’ (braised lamb on the bone with rice, bread and sides). To finish, exotic cupcakes, fragrant ice creams and pastries suit those with a sweet tooth. Pomegranate is unlicensed, but you’re welcome to BYO booze (no corkage). The restaurant also has a discreet, perfumed basement terrace where you can puff away on a fruity shisha pipe. Pre-theatre deals are handy for those visiting The Playhouse across the road.
