Located between Whitechapel and Aldgate East, cocktail bar PocketSquare can be found on the ninth floor of Hyatt London City East and offers sweeping views of London’s impressive skyline. Combining art-deco interiors, fantastic views, expertly-created cocktails and a food-paired menu to match, this London rooftop bar makes a suave and sophisticated location for your next work meeting, social catch-up or celebration.
Designed to bring together the tailored luxury of the City with the edge of East London, guests are invited to take a seat in the stunning dining and drinking area decorated with artwork from local and international artists on the walls. Woven velvets, striking patterns, natural wood and copper tones create a sleek and statement design, while mirrored surfaces and an open plan terrace ensure a spacious feel.
One of PocketSquare’s main draws is the gin-led bar where eight expertly crafted signature cocktails, each with their own story, can be enjoyed. The Marketa, for example, combines whisky, roasted pineapple and 1757 rosso and is inspired by two London fashion and food markets (Brick’s and Petticoat Lane). While the Anonymous is a mix of campari, ceylon arrack, palm sugar and burlesque bitters and described as a ‘world first’ cocktail that’s never been seen before. Each drink on the menu includes a food pairing suggestion, too.
Indeed, the food menu is short and sweet but specifically designed to match the cocktails. Look out for steamed tiger prawn bao buns with sweet pepper, yuzu and crème fraiche, candied bacon with sugar and honey, oyster tempura with ponzu dressing and salt beef sliders. The dishes are small and designed to be shared so as to keep the focus on the cocktails.
PocketSquare is open from the afternoons for hangouts, business drinks and parties. On weekends, make sure to catch its resident DJ and live music artists on the decks.
