Following a quick set change, Nottingham Playhouse’s old restaurant Cast has been swapped out for the Playhouse Kitchen. The restaurant’s look is still minimalist, but instead of white on white throughout, lime-green colour pops brighten up the interiors – on sunny days, the peaceful terrace is still the place to be. The food focus has shifted from experimental small plates to more traditional dishes (think chicken-liver parfait, crab sandwiches, fish & chips and local sausages with colcannon), while pride of place on the menu goes to the house sharing platter, filled with delicacies produced in and around Nottinghamshire – from Cropwell Bishop Stilton and bread from nearby Hambleton Hall, to artisan coleslaw made in West Bridgford. Regional pride influences the drinks menu: the bar dispenses locally brewed ales alongside the usual wines, beers and spirits. Pre-theatre menus are rightly popular, and a new, morning-only cake-and-coffee stop is also available.
