With an ambitious menu of nikkei fusion food, experimental cocktails, and no small amount of dry ice and pyrotechnics, Pirana is the latest in a long line of Mayfair and St James’s eateries where partying is the highest priority.
Pirana is the newest brainchild of the minds behind Dover Street nightclubs Mahiki and Tabu (which now has an additional location on Mykonos), and promises a similar entertainment-led approach. Enjoy dancing the night away until 1am as dinner evolves into a diverse range of DJ sets, alongside an extensive wine and champagne list (often presented with a sparkler in the bottle).
Particularly notable in Pirana’s drinks offering is the dedicated Espresso Martini menu, which offers no fewer than eight twists on the perennial favourite. Choose from unorthodox additions to your martini such as mascarpone, orange bitters, or mezcal, or go all out with the gold flake-crowned ‘Luxury’ take on the classic. Elsewhere on the menu, Pirana’s signature cocktail the Kokeshi (vodka, sake, and passionfruit puree) and The Don (Don Julio 1942 Tequila, agave syrup, yuzu lime and wasabi) are highlights.
Pirana’s commitment to partying does not necessarily mean that they compromise on food - there is a tight focus here on Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine, and a range of vegetarian and vegan options such as plant-based ceviche made from fennel and golden beetroot. Other must-try dishes include inventive premium sushi rolls like wagyu foie gras nigiri, kushiaki skewers served either with anticucho or teriyaki sauce, and a varied luxury oyster and caviar selection. The fusion theme continues on the dessert menu, with the likes of Peruvian chocolate mousse and matcha fondant with white chocolate and coconut sorbet on offer.
For your next luxurious West End night out, consider Pirana for a healthy balance of premium cuisine, interesting cocktails, and the opportunity to let your hair down.
