Dining at the Penmaenuchaf Hall Hotel is a beautifully unique experience. Nestled amidst 21 acres of beautiful Welsh countryside, the Penmaenuchaf is a Victorian mansion house turned country hotel and restaurant. Tucked away in South Snowdonia, the venue is surrounded by scenic walking routes, with many of Snowdonia’s mountains within driving distance. The hall itself dates back to the 16th century, and many of its historic touches continue to add a certain charm around the building. Guests are free to take a stroll around the hotel and restaurant’s manicured gardens, and paths into nearby woodland.
Independently owned, the food served in the Penmaenuchaf’s is fresh and locally sourced from Welsh suppliers. There is a garden in the hotel’s expansive grounds, from which the restaurant sources some herbs and vegetables. Mushrooms and wild garlic are also foraged from local areas, and honey from the hotel’s hives.
As would be expected from such a spectacular venue, the food served in the restaurant is equally impressive. Head chef Tom Hine and his team serve up lunch and dinner, emphasising British tradition and flavour. Diners can sit back, look out across views of the Penmaenuchaf’s gardens and the Snowdonia range in the distance, and enjoy a decadent meal.
Three courses come in at £56 at the Penmaenuchaf, and the menu is short but luxe. Starters include wood pigeon with swede, blackberries, walnut, and Madeira jus, and torched mackerel with cucumber, smoked pate, sesame, and chili caramel. Mains are no less impressive: Welsh black beef sirloin with artichoke, shallot, and red wine sauce, and Welsh lamb with caramelised turnip, sheep’s curd, gem lettuce, and jamb jus, for instance. Desserts are refined and sweet, including milk chocolate cheesecake with honeycomb, and apple tatin with vanilla ice cream.
This is a venue with breath-taking views, a beautiful food menu, and the option to stay the night afterwards - ideal.
