In its early days, when there was precious little competition for better-than-average Indian cooking, Origin Asia was way ahead of the pack. However, in the past five years or so, the local choice has improved enormously & it’s now easy to overlook this stalwart on the Richmond/Kew borders – despite its bold orange geometric design. All the classic curry-house dishes, from lamb dopiaza to chicken balti, are on the menu, but the restaurant has made its reputation by serving interesting, more high-end food. Give the Punjabi duck a try, pot-roasted with coriander & cumin, or push the boat out for the lobster pepper fry. Service is very proper, but the staff’s attention seems to increase the more you spend.
