Prioritising small plates and natural wines, Nook is a Michelin-guide restaurant located in Cardiff. The restaurant is small and cosy, but diners can book in advance to make sure to secure a table.
Aptly named, Nook is located on the corner of Cowbridge Row East, overlooking Victoria Park - and its outside is painted bright blue, so it'll be hard to miss. The restaurant itself, despite its small size, is designed to look clean and open. Tall windows let in natural light, and the space is decorated with succulents and wine bottles.
Nook's menu is subject to change according to what fresh ingredients the team can can source and how those ingredients inspire them, so be prepared to try about 2-3 small plates per person. Expect to see lots of local produce or seasonal products, and vegetarian/vegan/gluten free friends should also be able to find something on the menu that they can enjoy. Items on the sample menu include tempura tenderstem broccoli with cashew ricotta and vegan Worcestershire sauce, deep fried camembert and fig mostarda, or dry aged sirloin with walnut romesco and toasted walnuts. There is also dessert, so save room for options like cherry chocolate and toffee tart with basil or Gorgonzola dolce featuring pear mostarda and served with crackers.
An equal part of the menu is the natural wine selection, which is specially curated to create an unique selection of organic and biodynamic wines. Ask your waiter if they have any pairing recommendations, and they should hopefully be able to suggest a natural wine to go with your small plates. And non-drinkers can rest assured - there is also a specialty soft drinks list.
