Nonnas seems to have its fingers in lots of pies, with a well-known cycling emporium, the La Squada cycling club and numerous live events under its belt – as well as Italian restaurants in Sheffield and Chesterfield. Marble-topped tables and black-and-white photos on the walls set the scene, while the smell of coffee and freshly baked bread adds to the evocative Mediterranean vibe. The lengthy menu mixes trattoria staples with some more unusual specialities, so expect anything from bruschetta, frittata and calf’s liver with garlic mash and balsamic onions to citrus-cured red mullet with pickled carrots and fennel, char-grilled rib-eye with sweet-and-sour aubergine, bone marrow and mushrooms or twice-baked butternut squash soufflé with Gorgonzola potato croquettes. Pasta might feature linguine with slow-cooked tuna and black olives, while puds could include passion fruit tart with ricotta ice cream. Zesty Italian wines too.
