About

Home-grown Sicilian cuisine brought to Hertfordshire. This quaint restaurant offers diners a taste of Italy with authentic recipes, straight out of Nonna’s cookbook. As you walk through the doors, you are transported into an Italian café with the traditional wicker chairs, deli and patisserie counters and Italian flags and old-style pictures draped around the restaurant walls. You can also watch your meals come together in the open plan kitchen.

At Nonna’s Kitchen, swirl traditional Sicilian pastas around your fork or bite into your favourite pizza, all expertly prepared in the kitchen and cooked to perfection in the stone wood-fired pizza oven. All the dishes are made with organic and natural ingredients and are crafted with love using home-grown recipes. Visit this little taste of Italy every day from 10am and stay for breakfast, lunch and dinner until late.

Start with some true Sicilian dishes such as the Caprese or the Antipasti Siciliani, a sharing platter brimming with meats from the deli, cheeses and marinated vegetables, served with Nonna’s Kitchen’s homemade and freshly baked Sicilian bread. Choose a traditional pasta main of Rigatoni Della Nonna made with meatballs or Cannelloni Ricotta e Spinaci as a vegetarian option. You are spoilt for choice with the pizza menu but reviewers recommend the Emiliana, smothered with a tomato sauce base and topped with mozzarella, shavings of Parmesan, a green pesto sauce, Parma ham and rocket.

Other mains include a selection of burgers, fish, chicken and steak. Finish your meal off in style with one of the delectable patisserie dessert items or head to the gelato counter and lap up your pick of the 20 homemade flavours. You may have to hold yourself back from eating them all. Lastly, you can also sip on a Sicilian coffee, a self-proclaimed best in town. Before you leave, stop by the various fridge counters to pick out freshly-baked breads, cakes or salamis, olives and more deli items to take home.

The family-oriented Nonna’s Kitchen frequently hosts evenings of song, dance and forkfuls of fun with live music and tribute acts to be enjoyed alongside a three-course set menu meal.

Behind your back insulting comments in Italian. Don’t pay to get insulted.

Fawlty towers in Hoddesdon. There is a toxic waitress called Carla which is sad for the business. She gives nasty remarks about you in earshot, but in Italian so you don’t understand. Lucky I speak the language. Then she stares at you. No apology. No table manners. Heavy handed. That’s 3 times now on 3 separate occasions. In summary: Your special occasion can be ruined by Carla’s toxic behind your back snide insults about you. Rest seem nice but appear scared to talk to her about her rudeness
