There’s more to Spanish wine than Rioja
Alongside the classic regions such as Rioja, Ribera del Duero and Priorat, there’ll be new wave regions such as Bierzo, Toro and Campo de Borja, as well as emerging regions like Andalucia.
And while Tempranillo and Garnacha might be the most famous Spanish grapes, if it’s white wine that floats your boat, you’ll still find plenty to try. Galicia is home to vibrant, food-friendly Albarinos and dynamic Godello, Rueda produces zesty Verdejos and Sauvignon while Catalunya is the home of Cava, the famous sparkling wine that never breaks the bank.
And not to be missed will be a range of great-value and underrated sherry from Jerez – think bracing, tangy fino and manzanilla or richer, nuttier amontillado and oloroso.
The rise of Spanish gastronomy, architecture and arts has been mirrored by surging adventure and innovation in Spanish wine, often the result of a new generation of forward-thinking winemakers who have a spirit of adventure and innovation.
But don’t take our word for it, mark the date and come and meet some of these winemakers who are earning Spain its current reputation. Oh…and if you want to hit the ground running with some fingertip wine knowledge, check out some of our bluffer’s guides below.
We look forward to welcoming you on the night, trying some wine and food, and soaking up the views, the fun and the glamour of it all. Book your place now. ¡Salud!
