The Cheese Bar launches a mac ‘n’ cheese festival

London restaurant The Cheese Bar is launching a five date long mac ‘n’ cheese festival in collaboration with some of London’s most prominent mac ‘n’ cheese makers.

Taking place across five weeks in October and November, the celebration of all things mac ‘n’ cheese will see some of London’s top chefs and restaurants create and serve up their own unique takes on the staple comfort food dish.

Each restaurant or chef has been tasked with coming up with their very own special mac ‘n’ cheese, with the only stipulation being that all of the cheese used in the dishes must hail from Britain. The first to step up the (cheese) plate is Venetian sharing concept Polpo, who will serve a ‘Telefono Ultimo’ – Ogleshield, Coolea, Quicke’s Cheddar and braised leeks, topped with crispy breadcrumbs.

Next up will be Darby’s, the Vauxhall restaurant from chef Robin Gill that opened this summer. They’ll be dishing out ‘The Truffled Baron’, which is made with creamy Baron Bigod from Fen Farm Dairy in Suffolk, before being finished off with white truffle oil and grated Old Winchester.

Bleecker, among London’s best burger restaurants, will serve an ‘Angry Mac’ that consists of Cropwell Bishop Stilton topped with spicy, vinegary hot sauce, while Club Mexicana will serve a Club Mex Mac, using vegan cheese topped with crumbled ‘chorizo’ made from spiced tempeh and jalapenos. The final collaboration will be from Bubbledogs, although details are yet to be confirmed.

The mac ‘n’ cheeses will all be available on the below dates at The Cheese Bar’s Camden home.

14 October: Polpo’s ‘Telefono Ultimo’
21 October: Darby’s ‘The Truffled Baron’
28 October: Bleecker’s ‘ Angry Mac’
4 November: Club Mexicana’s ‘Club Mex Mac’
11 November: Bubbledogs’ mac ‘n’cheese (details TBC)
