Shangri-La, the luxury hotel housed within London’s The Shard, has teamed up with gastronomy company Mimo London to offer guests two interactive food experiences at nearby Borough Market.
Available for the autumn season, Shangri-La guests can choose between two culinary experiences; a two-hour market tasting tour, or an afternoon learning how to cook using produce that you’ll source yourself from the world-famous market. Below are details on each one.
The Borough Market Tasting Tour
There’s no denying that Borough Market is one of the most magical spots in London, bustling with independent and well-established street food traders and offering up some of the highest-quality produce in the capital.
It can be an overwhelming affair if you don’t know your stuff though, which is why Shangri-La provides an expert guide from Mimo to help you make the most of it. The tasting tour will involve meeting the local producers and tasting their wares, as well as paying a visit to the market’s must-try spots. With the help of the expert guide, the group will select produce to take back to the Mimo London Cooking School, which can be found on the market’s edge.
Once you’ve made it back, you and the rest of the group will be able to feast on the market haul, while enjoying a complimentary wine pairing around the chef’s table in the private dining room.
The package deal also includes a two-night stay at Shangri-La, English breakfast served in TING Restaurant and Lounge, and complimentary use of the Sky Gym and infinity Sky Pool. Tasting tours run on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays only, from 10am until midday. Prices start from £1,400 per person.
The Borough Market Cooking Class
If you prefer a more hands-on approach, opt for The Borough Market Cooking Class. The experience begins with a tour of the market with a Mimo London chef – guests will meet producers and select the ingredients for the meal they’ll be making in Mimo’s state-of-the-art kitchen.
The cooking class will be led by an expert chef, and will celebrate Iberian cooking using the British produce from the market. The experience ends with a delicious lunch and carefully chosen wine pairings as the group gathers around a communal dining table to enjoy the dishes.
The package also includes a two-night stay at Shangri-La, English breakfast served in TING Restaurant and Lounge, and complimentary use of the Sky Gym and infinity Sky Pool. The cooking classes run on Fridays only from 10am-2.30pm. Prices start from £1,580 per person.
