Pret A Manger is launching a special edition July Christmas sandwich to celebrate the end of lockdown after being inundated with requests from festive sarnie fans.
The Pret Christmas sandwich is typically one of the chain’s most bought items across the winter months, but due to lockdown and many people working from home, lots of people missed out on their usual turkey sarnie fix. In a bid to make up for the loss Pret have announced that they will be running a special Christmas sandwich for the rest of July.
Persuasive messages to Pret on Twitter – which apparently helped spur on the decision – included posts like “Thoughts on special release of the Christmas sandwich at end of lockdown to celebrate?” and “Hey Pret, how’s the food team coming along with the end of lockdown Christmas sandwich special? I know of two guaranteed customers (one is me)”.
As with the classic winter edition, the July Christmas sandwich from Pret will be served up in thick slices of soft bread and be filled with roast turkey in a port and orange sauce, a herby pork stuffing, baby spinach leaves, free-range mayo and crispy onions. Sadly, there won’t be a vegetarian or vegan offering, but Pret has said it will share the recipe for its popular vegan nut roast on social media, so that plant-based eaters can enjoy a taste of Christmas at home.
The brand has even gone as far as to employ the help of Slade singer Noddy Holder to star in a video heralding the return of Pret’s "CHRIIIIIISSSTMAAAS" sandwich. What’s more, Holder will be outside the 182 Wardour Street Pret today – the 6 July, 2021 – handing out 100 free Christmas sandwiches to lucky Londoners from 11am.
Speaking about the launch, Clare Clough, UK Managing Director of Pret A Manger commented: “Every year customers ask us for the Christmas sandwich to return earlier and earlier, and after many customers missed out on having one last year we’ve decided to stand by our mission of spreading joy through our food and coffee, and bring our iconic Christmas sandwich back early for a limited time this summer. While we can’t change the weather or the football scores this summer, we can help people celebrate and recreate some festive joy by reuniting them with their favourite Christmas sandwich.”
Pret’s festive sandwich also comes with a side of goodwill, with 50p from the sale of each sarnie going to The Pret Foundation. The in house charity works to alleviate poverty, hunger and homelessness.
When is the Pret Christmas sandwich on sale in July?
The summer edition of the Pret Christmas sandwich goes on sale on Tuesday 6 July, 2021 and will be available until the first week of August. To celebrate the launch 100 free sandwiches will be given away at the Wardour Street Pret.
