Morty & Bob’s in King’s Cross is launching (possibly London’s first) grilled cheese sandwich and wine pairing.
The café and bar in Coal Drops Yard is already well known for its hot sandwiches, and is now taking things up a gear. The wine and grilled cheese pairings will take place once a month, with the festivities kicking off on 11 June.
Guests on the night will enjoy a glazz of fizz upon arrival, as well as a selection of nibbles, before settling down for some cheesy fun. Throughout the night, guests will sample four wines, each of which will be paired with an off-menu grilled cheese sandwich.
The cheeses featured will be a celebration of Britain’s best, while a few British wines will be featured too as part of the worldly collection. Cheese toasties that you can expect to find include the likes of the Straight Up' M&B Classic, which is a combination of sourdough, Gruyère cheese sauce, Neal’s Yard Dairy Cheddar Blend, spring onion and red onion. Elsewhere, you can also chow down on a variety featuring wild mushrooms, garlic pesto and truffle, or perhaps pitta pockets full of cheese mix, spiced lamb, fresh mint and crumbled feta.
A sommelier will host the evening and Morty & Bobs have promised that this will be a fun and informal event, so forget any preconceptions of wine tastings being stuffy and serious affairs.
Morty & Bobs finds itself in good company at Coal Drops Yard – the shopping and restaurant hub also houses a branch of popular tapas bar Barrafina, as well as the much-praised Coal Office, which is a collaboration between restaurant designer Tom Dixon and ex-Palomar chef Assaf Granit.
