A Michelin-recognised restaurant has designed a ‘social distancing’ menu for customers looking to self-isolate in style.

Fine-dining restaurant Merienda in Edinburgh’s Stockbridge was awarded a prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand last October, with the acclaimed restaurant guide describing it as a restaurant which “serves quality food at a good value”.

Now, the restaurant’s owner Campbell Mickel is putting together a 'social distancing' menu, for those who are practising self-isolation but don’t quite want to give up on the finer things in life. The menu is still being finalised, but you can expect to tuck into the classic likes of beef bourguignon and chicken chasseur.

Local people looking to enjoy Merienda’s contemporary fine dining cuisine without having to leave their homes will be able to order their food and wine online, before having it promptly delivered to their door. Deliveries can be left on the doorstep to avoid any human contact, while the food will also come with instructions on how best to enjoy it.

It’s important to remember that this is a bit of a step up from your usual Deliveroo order though. Orders will need to be made a day in advance and the service is for people who want to stock up, so you will need to order a few meals at one time. They’ll arrive ready to be cooked in the oven or microwave, or ready to freeze so you can enjoy them at your own leisure.

Speaking to local paper Edinburgh Live, Campbell said: “Obviously people are a bit scared. The panic buying of toilet roll and pasta isn't going to do much for anybody’s diet. Restaurants are feeling it, it’s a difficult time. So we thought we’d offer restaurant standard classics at home.”
