MasterChef’s Steven Edwards is taking over a London restaurant after success of Hove site

Chef Steven Edwards, who won MasterChef:The Professionals in 2013 and has since run a popular restaurant in Hove, has revealed that in March he will taking on the Bingham Riverhouse in Richmond.

For MasterChef fans Steven Edwards will be a familiar face but whilst the chef hasn’t been hogging the limelight since his win in 2013 he has been quietly cooking up a storm at his fine dining restaurant Etch in Hove. The restaurant, which he opened in 2017, is a small and intimate venue serving tasting menus of understated excellence which have earned him a coveted place in the Michelin guide as well as three AA Rosettes and a Gold Award from us.

Now Edwards has revealed that he will be making his London debut by taking on the renowned restaurant at Bingham Riverhouse in Richmond, currently headed up by Andy Cole. The restaurant, previously known as The Bingham before a refurb last year, held a Michelin star between 2010 and 2011 when chef Shay Cooper was at the helm, and no doubt Edwards will be striving to return it to its former glory. In contrast to Etch, which Edwards will continue to oversee, Bingham Riverhouse will offer a full a la carte menu which according to the restaurant’s website will celebrate local and British produce with dishes that are ‘nostalgic, fun and have a real purity of flavour’.

Speaking about his new appointment Edwards commented “I’m really pleased that we’re taking our next step into London by collaborating with Bingham Riverhouse,” adding “I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved in Hove so far and with so much more to come there, this feel like the right way to grow our portfolio.”

Sample dishes from the new menu include cured sea trout with pickled onions and dill; roasted guinea fowl with cauliflower cheese and nasturtiums; a kale doughnut with broccoli puree and gherkin; and poached Williams pear with pistachio and coriander ice cream.

Edwards isn’t the only MasterChef:The Professionals winner with big ambitions for London 2020. Read about what Sven-Hanson Britt has got in the pipeline here
