August is finally here and in the shellfish world, it means a bit more than late summer: it’s lobster season. At the famous London seafood merchant, Wright Brothers, you can grab an ethically sourced lobster for a steal at just £20.
Wright Brothers is serving up a whole grilled lobster with all the trimmings: expect a plateful of green salad and fries, or potato at Borough Market, and for your lobster to be finished with perfectly paired garlic butter.
Get a taste of the seaside at all Wright Brothers restaurants from midday until 5pm every Monday to Friday, but get in there early as lobster is served on a first-come first-served basis.
Book a spot at Wright Brothers to avoid disappointment
The native lobsters found on your plate come straight from the ocean through Wright Brothers’ Brixham wholesale team. At the restaurant, what you get is the day’s catch, so make sure to add a note when booking so that the restaurant knows you want the lobster.
The native English lobster season is celebrated from June until September due to warmer ocean waters, so when you’re next ordering the indulgent sweet and fleshy treat be wary of the season and make sure they are sourced sustainably. Native English lobsters are dark blue in colour when freshly caught, but turn the classic shade of red once cooked.
If you don't fancy lobster, Wright Brothers is also celebrating a summery August with other fresh seasonal produce. Munch on red mullet in the Spitalfields branch, which is served with toasted fregola, and topped with a roasted tomato dressing and basil. At the Soho location, Brothers will dish up girolle mushrooms with peas and ricotta on sourdough, while at the Battersea restaurant, you can order the tuna tataki with pickled daikon.
Your lobster will come with fries and salad
Make the most of the August sun with each of Wright Brothers haunts too. Soho’s restaurant is placed in Kingly Court, making for a sunny spot to dine outdoors. Alternatively, you can take in the tranquil riverside at Battersea or eat on the Market Terrace at Wright Brothers Spitalfields. There’s also the Mermaid Bar in South Kensington, proving to be a cool spot to enjoy your meal.
To really get into the summer spirit, add a refreshing spritz to your lobster lunch. The cocktails are available at all restaurants, excluding Borough, and you can choose a Passion Fruit Spritz topped with Prosecco or the Watermelon Spritz with Aperol, vodka, lavender syrup and lemonade.
