An Instagram Influencer gave a restaurant a one-star rating because they didn’t receive a discount

A negative review left by a supposed Instagram influencer has gone viral after the social media personality slammed the restaurant for not offering them a discount.

The message was originally posted on review site Yelp but went viral after someone posted the review on social media platform Reddit. The poster has removed the name of the reviewer and the name of the restaurant, so it’s hard to know much about the person responsible for the review, although it’s believed they’re based in the US.

In the one-star review of an Italian restaurant, the unnamed influencer states that they actually enjoyed the food they ate, saying it was “very delicious”, and also revealing that they told the manager it was “some of the best Italian food” they’ve ever had.

However, the review turns negative once the anonymous influencer reveals that they were not offered a discount for the meal, despite offering to recommend the restaurant to their significant social media following.

Writing about the exchange, the influencer said: “I told [the manager] I’m going to post about it on Instagram where I have over 11 thousand followers and a lot of them are in the area. She seemed very happy about it."

"I was wrong. I thought that she would be greatful [sic] for the free advertising but when the cheque came there was literally no discount at all. I thought at least one of the entries [sic] would be taken off but they didn’t even take off the calamari or even the drinks!"

Concluding the review, the unnamed influencer wrote: "I won’t go back here because of this, which is a shame because the food was very good. The manager needs to understand how to treat customers."

The reaction to the review on social media has been a mixture of laughs and scorn. One user commented “Peak 2019, in one restaurant review", while another said “If I was the owner I'd frame this review and place it in the entryway."
