Chef and food writer Gizzi Erskine is set to launch a new London restaurant called The Nitery.
Found at the St Martin’s Lane London hotel, the three-month residency will feature classic dishes from Britain, France and America, which have all been given playful updates. The Nitery gets its name from early 20th century Parisian ‘niteries’ – a name given to bohemian restaurants which welcomed artists, poets and other creatives.
The Nitery will take over the space which currently houses St Martins Lane Kitchen, with the restaurant serving food, wine and cocktails, alongside a sumptuous roast on Sundays. On the menu, expect to find small plates such as devilled eggs with roast chicken crackling and oysters with yuzu kosho granite, while starters proper include steak tartare with bone marrow dripping on marmite toast with cured egg yolk.
Main courses at The Nitery are indulgent affairs, with options to choose from including wood-fired shellfish and Flagoelet dauphinoise with goat cutlets. To round off their meal, diners will be able to choose from recreations of classic desserts – think chocolate mousse with Horlicks cream and Gizzi’s own take on a Queen of Puddings. For those who prefer savoury delights, there will be a cheeseboard served alongside Hackney honeycomb.
The Nitery is also open on the weekends. The Saturday brunch menu is yet to be announced, but we do know that Sundays will see a classic three-course roast being served. Begin with starters such as prawn cocktail and Secret Smokehouse cold smoked trout on brown bread, before taking your pick from the carving station, replete with beef, lamb, pork and a vegetarian Wellington. On Sundays, desserts come straight from a trolley which is wheeled around the room, and classic puds are topped with pouring cream or ice cream.
The Nitery by Gizzi Erskine will run from 13 February to 30 April 2020 at St Martin’s Lane Kitchen.
