We all know that Christmas is a time for treating yourself (and others!), and it doesn’t get much more special than a delicious meal out at a top London restaurant.
If you are looking for a luxury Christmas outing that will impress whoever your dining with (whether that be a colleague, friend or date), head to intimate Piccadilly restaurant Engawa. This high-end Japanese only has room for 29 people at one time and is a specialist in Kobe beef, which is the most expensive and sought-after kind in the world. In fact, Engawa is the only restaurant in the UK to import the entire Kobe cow from Japan.
To mark the festive period, the restaurant’s executive chef Akira Shimizu has designed a decadent thirteen-course Kobe beef tasting menu, which is a celebration of the famous Tajima black cattle.
This rather unique dining experience will only be available for a few days in December, with the menu clocking in at an eye-watering £235 per person. If you can stomach the price, your feast will begin with a refreshing Raspberry and Yuzu Champagne cocktail, before you move on to starters such as grilled, thinly sliced Kobe sirloin with Tamaru-Ya wasabi and thin noodles in stock with tender sliced beef.
Next up, you’ll enjoy a selection of sushi, before tucking into the likes of Kobe beef thigh accompanied by foie gras, Kobe beef stock and teriyaki sauce, as well as Kobe sirloin with sea urchin and a cheese and truffle cream sauce. You will also enjoy a Kobe beef burger and 20-day aged Kobe beef served with Nori seaweed.
The restaurant is also offering a drinks pairing to go alongside the menu for those with bottomless pockets. Diners can choose between a wine, Champagne or sake pairing with prices starting from an additional £85 per person.
Engawa’s 13-course Kobe beef tasting menu is available from 21-24 December.
