New York Bakery Co. and Notting Hill pizzeria Mulberry Street have joined forces for National Pizza and National Bagel Day, creating the ‘bagelizza’.
Hundreds of the pizza-bagel hybrids will be available on 9 February (which is both National Pizza and National Bagel Day) at Mulberry Street pizzeria and on Deliveroo from midday, on a first-come-first-served basis. The best part? They're free!
Until now, both days have been competing for the attention of hungry Londoners. This Saturday though, the ‘bagelizza’ will bridge the gap between the two events.
Brand manager for New York bakery Co., Rhiannon Heap said: “this year we decided to embrace the fact that two food icons of New York share the same national day. The ‘Bagelizza’ has the same authentic chew of our boil-and-bake bagels, and is loaded with the very best New York flavours.”
Two guests test out the Bagelizza
This 12-inch boiled and baked bagel weighs a hefty 1.5kg, which is 16 times the weight of your average bagel. This is then sliced in half before a selection of toppings are added. These include 21-day-aged brisket pastrami, sitting on a bed of sauerkraut and swiss cheese, before adding Russian dressing.
The bagel toppings are placed on top of Mulberry Street’s signature marinara sauce and 300g of mozzarella.
The Rock shows off his cheat-day feast
The pizzeria enjoyed a moment in the spotlight in November last year, when movie star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson posted a picture on Instagram with two 20-inch pizzas from the restaurant. The actor was taking a well-earned break from his diet, after finishing filiming for Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw.
Mulberry Street received so much traffic from The Rock’s post that its website crashed and its sales for the day increased by 1000%. Well, if it's good enough for The Rock...
