Chef Robin Gill will launch a new restaurant at the upcoming Great Scotland Yard Hotel

Chef and restaurateur Robin Gill will be in charge of the kitchen at Westminster’s upcoming Great Scotland Yard Hotel.

Gill will oversee two restaurants and two bars at the hotel, with the main restaurant being The Yard, which is described as “a modern British restaurant showcasing the very best of the UK countryside in central London”. Elsewhere, The Parlour will serve the hotel’s afternoon tea offering, while The Forty Elephants bar will major in British-inspired cocktails, and the second bar Sibin will revolve around rare whiskeys.

Gill has partnered with Alex Harper for the project, who he previously worked with at Raymond Blanc’s Michelin-starred Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire. The opening of The Yard and the other food and beverage outlets at the hotel is the latest in a series of partnerships between high-profile chefs and hotels with large financial backing. In recent times, Tom Kerridge has partnered with Corinthia Hotel London, much-feted Spanish chef Albert Adria opened a desserts-only restaurant at Café Royal and upcoming hotel The Standard in King’s Cross announced that chef Peter Sanchez-Inglesias will head up its flagship restaurant.

Speaking about his partnership with the hotel, Gill said: “Great Scotland Yard is a historical institution so we had to be bold, bringing a new chapter and attitude not only to the building but also to Westminster. As with my other restaurants, we’ll be taking a back to basics approach; our aim is to let the ingredients and the experience do the talking while producing the very finest plates of food.”

Gill already operates a successful clutch of ventures in the capital, including Italian-focused Sorella in Clapham, as well as The Dairy and its offshoot Counter Culture both in the same neighbourhood. Most recently, the chef opened his Irish-influenced restaurant Darby’s at the Embassy Gardens development in Nine Elms, which comprises an oyster bar, bakery and grill.
