This eccentric, big-hearted spot is set up as a Bavarian bierkeller, with everything from Krombacher pils to Munich’s Paulaner (brewing since 1634). Themed cocktails haven’t been forgotten, including Apple Strudel Martinis and Black Forests (a concoction of cherry liqueur, chocolate and brandy), although they’ve decided to look further afield to source the wines. The food is predictably tough on the waistline: sausages, potato salads and schnitzels give way to slow-roasted pork knuckle with sauerkraut, or roast chicken with chips and dumplings. All they need now is an oompah band… watch this space.
