Located in the mediaeval streets of Aberdeen’s merchant quarter, Moonfish Cafe hit the city in 2004 and has been bringing its own quirky style of mediaeval dining to the city ever since. Their offering is quality casual dining that is never pretentious but always beautifully executed. Its enviable location has impressive views of the 12th century Kirk of St Nicolas and the quaint cobbled streets running outside the restaurant adds to the charm and character of this casual dining spot in Aberdeen. The modern British menu is juxtaposed with the historic setting, giving a fresh perspective on a traditional British menu. The restaurant prides itself on an ever-evolving menu that is reflective of seasonal produce and sourced locally wherever possible, meaning that each visit you can have a fresh choice of dishes. The seasonal lunch menu is served Tuesday to Saturday until 2pm, or 2.30pm at the weekends, and includes a selection of small and large plates, followed by sweets. An example of current highlights include smaller plates to start such as grilled asparagus with onion soubise, parmesan and cured egg yolk, followed by the likes of spring lamb with peas, couscous, grilled gem lettuce and broccoli puree, or roasted cod with tuscan bread salad, saffron aioli and olive oil.In the evening, diners can enjoy set menu options of either two, three or four courses, with the option of a cheese course. These dishes build on the seasonal fare you'll see at lunch, with a few extra options, too.The food menu is complemented by an impressive and carefully curated drinks list - so make sure you take the time to explore the extensive gin selection and have your choice of a gin martini or a traditional G&T. The list includes all the well known brands you know and love, along with an eclectic and thoughtful mix of Scottish gins.
