Morocco, Scandinavia and Micronesia are among the destinations to inspire serial globetrotter Richard Hunt, as the award-winning bartender sets up shop in ‘Stokey’. With stints at Mahiki and Kanaloa under his belt, it’s only natural that Hunt’s maiden solo gig – this agreeably homespun cocktail lounge cum ‘tea house’ – is pervaded by a tiki vibe. The competitively priced mixes advanced signatures, gimlets, fizzes, alcoholic tonics and sodas speak of balmy climes. Melon and citrus wine, neroli, camomile and lemony sea salt inform the Beach Club Cocktail, while Star of Nicosia consists of resinous Greek spirit mastiha, fig ‘jus’, Sicilian olives and dry vermouth. In the absence of a kitchen, bar food tends towards tasty Med-Asian assemblages: almond hummus, rose harissa with flatbread, char-grilled aubergine and tabbouleh, or perhaps bang bang kimchi with choya brioche, ricotta and a perky daikon salad. ‘Tiffin Tea’ and an alternative English ‘High Tea’ are also served.
