A refurb has given this traditional pub the kiss of life – pretty wallpaper and a lively bar have lifted it from dullness and reinvented it as a fun place to eat, drink and be merry. An unfussy menu boasts British-American fare, from spring onion and wild garlic tart to hefty smoked meat stacks (aka fully loaded sandwiches) with the meat smoked on site. Wash it down with local craft beers (when we say local, we mean it; they have a microbrewery in the cellar) or choose from a bird-themed list of simple yet sophisticated cocktails in a nod to the pub’s name.
