Camden Market Stables, North London, a Grade II listed building that served as a hospital and home for the horses used to pull vans and barges along the canal. Its current occupants include restaurants, clothes shops, furniture shops, theatres and galleries, of which Indian Alley is one. The decor blends the building’s past with its present, resulting in exposed brickwork covered in photos of India. There’s also a long white marble bar where a range of Indian-inspired cocktails are served.
Indian Alley’s menu features dishes from the roadside eateries of Delhi. This is best reflected in the thalis, biryani boxes, curry boxes and wraps. Thalis are a great way to sample a variety of menu options. Served either vegan or with chicken or lamb, all come with yellow lentils, spinach and potato curry, tawa roti, kachumber salad, saffron rice and a dessert. Biryanis, curry boxes and wraps are also either vegetarian/vegan or with those two meats.
The remainder of the menu is made up of favourites from Anglo-Indian cuisine. Bites include onion bhajis and curry fries with a mayo dip. For small plates, there’s the likes of tandoori chicken wings, paneer tikka and lamb seekh kebab. Standout curry options are butter chicken, saag paneer and lamb rogan josh. Rice can either be plain or pulao.
The drinks menu includes the Mumbai margherita, Delhi daiquiri and Indian old fashioned. Non-alcoholic cocktails are also on offer, such as a lassi (mango, sweet or salted) and elderflower fizz. Happy hour is two for one on drinks and happens every day between 3-5pm.
Other offers are chicken wings and a beer for £12, thali and a beer for £16, and a wrap fries and a soft drink for £10.
