Priding themselves on their local and sustainably sourced meat for their burgers, Hub Box is attempting to create quality food that doesn't hurt the stomach or the conscience.
The restaurant itself has a laid-back vibe, with a location in Mermaid Quay that benefits from views across the bay. The interior of the building is equally relaxed, as Hub Box values simplicity and would prefer the attention to be on their food and your experience. Prepare to see a lot of wood, modern art, yellow lighting, and bohemian decor.
This Cardiff-based restaurant is supplied by beef farmed on the Cornwall and Devon border, and the burger patties are made from rare-breed 21 day dry-aged beef and served atop a freshly toasted Baker Tom's bun. As a burger joint, this is their specialty, and there are plenty of options to choose from if you're not in the mood for beef - such as chicken, halloumi, falafel, portobello mushroom, Beyond Meat or This Isn't Chicken patties.
There's lots of variety to choose from on the beef side of the menu too - some inventive options being the Big Kahuna with a beef patty, barbeque pulled pork, Swiss cheese, barbeque sauce, mayo, lettuce, and an onion ring, or the Chilli Cheese with a beef patty, beef chilli, burger cheese, jalepenos, chipotle mayo, onion, and lettuce. Some other fun options are the Big Cheese with a buttermilk-fried halloumi slice, Swiss cheese, pineapple relish, pickled beetroot, garlic mayo, and rocket, or the Brie B King grilled chicken sandwich with bacon jam, brie, garlic mayo, and rocket.
Make sure to get one of their nine french fry options as a side, of which you have the option to 'make 'em dirty' and top them with hub sauce, diced white onions, and jalapenos. But if that isn't your thing, don't worry, there are many other options on the menu.
