Set up by a group of friends who met while working at Charlotte’s Bistro in Chiswick, Home is as comfortable as its name – a cheery local haunt where cocktails from the long front bar and banter with the staff are as much a part of the operation as the food dished up by the kitchen.
With bentwood chairs and plain tables setting the scene, there’s nothing pretentious about the dining area, and the menu’s pretty down to earth too – simple salads and brunchy dishes at lunchtime give way to the likes of tuna ceviche with roasted red pepper, bavette with red wine butter or glazed ham hock with caper mash and cabbage in the evening. After that, expect sweet offerings such as treacle tart with clotted cream or chocolate and hazelnut mousse with salted caramel.
For those not relying on the barman’s ability to shake a mean cocktail, there’s a decent wine list with a range of interesting tipples by glass – perfect with all-day bar bites such as shrimp burgers, duck rillettes or cauliflower cheese croquettes.
