Following a revamp, what was what was the accurately named 23 Stoke Newington Road has been rebooted and rebranded as High Water – a blend of low lighting, toffee-toned wall panelling, a chalet roof and bentwood chairs à la Bavarian ‘wein bar’. Run by ‘two cocktail geeks and a craft beer nerd’ who is also behind Essex Road’s Hops & Glory, this wonderful wee local lounge focuses on fairly priced classic sips and awesome amber draughts. Cocktail connoisseurs will need no introduction to the likes of Airmail, Aviation, Floradora, Hanky Panky, Rob Roy, Blood & Sand, Hemingway Daiquiri or Devil’s Share (bourbon, maple syrup, lemon, orange and ginger) – recent classy calls from an evolving list. There’s also pure class in the European beer department – witness the likes of Tripel Karmeliet, Rochefort 10, Kwak and Saison Dupont.
