Hazel's is bringing the music to St Albans. Inspired by the old Japanese tradition of listening bars, this wine-bar and restaurant puts an emphasis on the music, bringing the tunes from background noise to center stage. The space is home to a custom-built vinyl library as well as a vintage sound system. Hazel's hosts a selection of guest vinyl selectors who take turns to artfully curate the restaurant's vibe, while every set will be different you can expect to dine to the sounds of jazz and soul.
The setting is warm and inviting, with an oak bar and high top tables. The room is elegant while still comfortable, the perfect atmosphere to enjoy the sounds of vintage vinyl and a glass of wine.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that the food is just an afterthought, Chef Drew Knights French-inspired menu will be constantly changing, making the most of the freshest, seasonal produce.
The menu is designed for sharing, with a mix of smaller and larger plates. To start, dip into the whipped smoked cod roe, or split the stracciatella served with yellow peach, pistachio pesto and tomato. The aged sirloin accompanied by wild mushrooms and a green peppercorn sauce makes for a hearty main for the table, especially when ordered with a side of triple cooked chips.
End on a sweet note and tuck into a lemon custard tart, or sample their dark chocolate cake with creme fraiche and strawberries. Hazel's also boasts an impressive list of European wines, as well as a craft beer selection created by the Beer Shop in St Albans. If you are after something a bit different, Hazel's offers 5 unique cocktails, including a Rhubard Negroni and a Snickers Old Fashioned.
