Recently extended into the former sea aquarium next door, the Harbourmaster has doubled its drinking & dining space. The new bar & lounge is usually abuzz with guests & locals, &
its floor-to-ceiling glass windows let in sea breezes to go with the gorgeous harbour view. Housed in the original Harbourmaster building, the restaurant is a feast of wood panelling in seaside
tones, with original artwork & reclaimed furniture. Expect simple, modern food including plenty of fish – Cardigan Bay lobster with new potatoes & thermidor butter, for example, or
blackened sea bream with roasted peppers & red onion. On a recent visit, fat pan-fried scallops with salsa verde made an impressive start, followed by tender duck confit on wild mushrooms with
wilted organic spinach & great fries. Finish with generous desserts such as white chocolate mousse or summer pudding. The well-balanced wine list offers plenty by the glass.
